The Institute of Immunology, Ireland-

  • How do vaccines work?
  • Why do vaccines fail?
  • Why is the prevalence of asthma rising in Ireland?
  • Can we design safe and effective vaccines against cancer or Hepatitis C?
  • Can the infant mortality rates in the developing world be reduced?

These questions are being addressed by teams of researchers in the Institute of Immunology at NUI Maynooth. Immunology is the study of how the body is defended against disease. It is a key discipline which has led to many of the advances in modern bio-medicine. Our knowledge of the immune system has also allowed us to develop new technologies, which have found application in a broad range of industries from food production (probiotics), to the rapid diagnostic tests used in Irish hospitals.

Our Goal is:

"To achieve a safer world through education and research in Immunology"
